What the Chaos Goblin pattern looks like day to day

Chaos Goblins tend to combine high exploration with high play motivation and comparatively little braking. The result is fast, inventive, and frequently nocturnal: the midnight sprint, the improbable leap, the shelf that has been quietly rearranged. Ordinary household objects get promoted into toys, usually the ones that were not intended to be.

The low regulation score is the operative part of this pattern. Excitement tends to build quickly and take longer than average to come back down, so games can tip from play into overstimulation without much warning. Most of what looks like naughtiness is unspent energy meeting an environment with insufficient legal outlets.

• Several short play sessions across the day generally beat one long one, which can wind them up past the point of settling.
• Give the climbing somewhere sanctioned to happen, or it will select its own venue.
• Build in a wind-down — a last catch, then food — rather than stopping play abruptly.
